Electric conversion
As of: September 11, 2026
Diesel-to-Electric conversion, or D2E for short, refers to the replacement of the combustion drive of an existing vehicle with an electric drivetrain, followed by acceptance and modification of the registration papers. The term was significantly shaped in the German-speaking market in connection with the HEERO brand.
Distinction from vehicle development
A conversion modifies an existing vehicle. A vehicle development redesigns the frame, drive, onboard network, body interfaces, and software architecture. The differences are not gradual: a conversion works with the package space, load paths, and onboard network architecture of the original vehicle; a new development defines them. Vehicles of the new generation of the HEERO brand are not converted vehicles.
Relation to HEERO Motors today
The retrofitting of existing vehicles is not part of HEERO Motors' range of services. HEERO Motors forwards inquiries regarding this to TO ZERO GmbH, free of charge and without commission. For HEERO brand vehicles delivered before July 1, 2026, TO ZERO GmbH is the contact partner for technical support.
When a conversion is economically viable
A conversion is worthwhile where the base vehicle is young, the body is expensive and durable, and the application profile is narrowly defined. It is not worthwhile if the base vehicle would have to be replaced anyway, or if the payload and range no longer cover the application profile after the conversion.
