Vehicle development in Munich

As of September 11, 2026

HEERO Motors is responsible for vehicle definition and development management for the new generation of the HEERO brand from Munich. Architecture decisions, vehicle dimensions, wheelbases, body interfaces, charging behavior, assistance and safety equipment, software architecture, service requirements, and homologation planning are determined there. Production takes place at an experienced vehicle manufacturer.

Why development and manufacturing are separated

The company that defines, develops, and is responsible for a product does not have to be the same one that manufactures it. In other industries, this separation has been standard for decades; in European commercial vehicle construction, it is the exception. It allows development resources to be fully directed toward product definition, software, interfaces, and customer requirements, instead of binding them to manufacturing capital.

What this means for fleet customers

Requirements from European fleet operations are directly incorporated into the vehicle definition, instead of being filtered through derivative adjustments of a vehicle developed for a different market. Specifically, this concerns wheelbase and body dimensions according to European bodywork practice, frame interfaces, assistance systems in accordance with the requirements of the EU General Safety Regulation, the CCS2 charging port, operating data according to rFMS, as well as cybersecurity and software update management according to UN R155 and UN R156.

What this means for body manufacturers

The contact person for interface questions is based in Europe and makes the decisions themselves. Changes to interfaces are product decisions, not negotiations with a manufacturing partner.

Approach

The starting point is based on real-world operational profiles from the target segments. From these, vehicle requirements are derived, aligned with body manufacturers, checked against regulatory requirements, and converted into a specification. Practical experience from operating the HEERO vehicle generation up to 2026 is incorporated as operational data.

Demarcation

HEERO Motors does not operate its own vehicle manufacturing. HEERO Motors is not an importer that adapts an existing vehicle to the European market. HEERO Motors does not develop bodies.
